THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF SOCIAL PROBLEMS
Session 1Henry George School of Social Science149 East 38th Street, New York, NY 10016Based on Henry George’s “fighting book”; Social Problems, this five session course will present a critical analysis of the causes, manifestations as well as the consequence of income disparity in society. We will discuss and evaluate various theories and policy responses advocated by mainstream economics before presenting a Georgist paradigm that rewards the efforts of the entrepreneur without exploiting laboring masses.
This course will trace the root causes of social problems back to the natural laws that must govern the distribution of wealth in society.

PROGRESS AND POVERTY
Session 3Henry George School of Social Science149 East 38th Street, New York, NY 10016Through an intense and thorough analysis of George’s seminal work, Progress & Poverty, this course will take aim at the fundamental problem of wealth distribution and show that the only viable alternative to “bad capitalism” is not socialism but “true capitalism”; where socially created wealth is put to the service of the community rather than privatized. The course will lay out George’s simple but radical remedy, so that we may avoid the insanity of trying the same solutions and expect different results.

Capitalism - The Anglo- American Liberal Democratic Model
SeminarHenry George School of Social Science149 East 38th Street, New York, NY 10016Capitalism – The Anglo- American Liberal Democratic Model
Capitalism, the dominant economic system in today’s world is also widely credited for the wealth and progress of nations. However, the great success stories often come with a growing polarization of society between haves and have nots. In this interactive seminar, Michael Bucher looks at the Anglo-American experiment, and asks what went wrong and why true capitalism is the only sensible path to reforming capitalism.
