What’s behind Puerto Rico’s Economic Malaise

This episode of Smart Talk features Marie Mora, Professor of Economics at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley. Pr. Mora shares the findings of her research on economic conditions and the general outlook for Puerto Rico before and after hurricane Maria. She argues that the island’s economic woes date back from 2006 when businesses began scaling back and moving out following the expiration of the 1976 tax credits.

WHAT’S NEW IN ECONOMICS

WE CHOOSE A WORLD THAT IS FAIR AND JUST

Join us at the Henry George School to discover what we can do together. The mission of our school is based on the ideas and writings of American political economist and social reformer, Henry George. His seminal book, Progress and Poverty, is an all-time best seller in economics. His ideas continue to influence political and economic thought and still resonate and remain relevant nearly a century-and-a-half later.
