Fred Foldvary

The Henry George School is saddened by the tragic news of Prof. Fred Foldvary’s passing and extends its deepest sympathy to his family.

Prof. Foldvary was a leading Georgist, dedicated to serving the Georgist Community throughout his life and was an inspiration to us all. Our community and students will be forever touched by his intellect, graciousness and generosity in sharing the philosophies of Henry George. He will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune to have known him.

Prof. Foldvary received his B.A. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University. He has taught economics at the Latvian University of Agriculture, Virginia Tech, John F. Kennedy University, California State University East Bay, the University of California at Berkeley Extension, Santa Clara University, and San Jose State University.

Prof. Foldvary is the author of The Soul of Liberty, Public Goods and Private Communities, Dictionary of Free Market Economics. He edited and contributed to Beyond Neoclassical Economics and, with Dan Klein, The Half-Life of Policy Rationales. Prof. Foldvary’s areas of research included public finance, governance, ethical philosophy, and land economics.
