THE COMING 2026 ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRISIS

What causes the boom & bust cycle and can we prevent it?

As the US economy advances deep into the current property-market led economic turmoil, this course will present an in-depth analysis of the history and causes of business cycles. The 5-week lecture series will draw on the work of economists and public policy experts on the potential mitigating effects of governmental interventions and propose changes in taxation and public policy.

These increasingly powerful and financialized firms routinely represent themselves as ‘innovators‘, ‘problem solvers‘ and self-anointed forces for good by connecting users and delivering value worldwide. But are the solutions provided by Big Tech as good as they contend? What does the rise of Big Tech entail for wealth inequality, democracy and capitalism itself?

    Based on Yanis Varoufakis’ latest book – Technofeudalism, What Killed Capitalism, this course investigates the main challenges presented by Tech monopolies and discusses Georgist answers.

    Dr. Marty Rowland is an environmental engineer with New York City’s Parks Department. Dr. Rowland is a faculty member as well as trustee at the Henry George School. He has published extensively on Georgist Economics and taught many courses at the School.
