Smart Talk: The Coming War on Capitalism by Samir Amin

Renowned political economist Samir Amin has devoted his extensive career to both narrate and affect the human condition on a global scale. In this edition of Smart Talk, he joins Andrew Mazzone to discuss the impact of the cataclysmic forces of capitalism from the post-World War era to the present day.

Monopolies control practically the entire economic system and political system. Electoral representative democracy has surrendered its credibility. Oligarchies are everywhere and neo-Fascist parties are on the rise once again. Wealth continues to accumulate only to the wealthiest.

With this economic uncertainty raging through societies worldwide, Dr. Samir addresses the urgent question: How do we escape the quandary the world now finds itself in?

Samir Amin was born in Egypt in 1931 and received his Ph.D. in economics in Paris in 1957. He is director of the Third World Forum in Dakar, Senegal. His numerous works include The Law of Worldwide Value, Eurocentrism: Second Edition, The World We Wish to See, The Liberal Virus, Accumulation on a World Scale, Imperialism and Unequal Development, and The Implosion of Contemporary Capitalism.
