Richard Dragan, PhD, MFA
Richard Dragan is an Associate Professor of English at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY, in Long Island City where he launched a successful two-year program in Journalism. Prior to his teaching career, he worked extensively as a technical and business journalist at Ziff-Davis, where he was Contributing Editor at PC Magazine / PCMag.com in the early 2000s. He published over 300 articles on software and technology trends, which have been translated into 11 languages worldwide.
He has a deep knowledge of technology and education and taught over 80 courses at Columbia’s IT Programs for 15 years in software and web development. He worked as Senior Programmer at PC Magazine Labs. In 2023, he co-founded a small technology company, SimpleCourseware LLC, which offers a custom learning management system (LMS) called ClassRocket.
As a scholar, he has published papers on such twentieth-century authors at James Joyce, Thomas Pynchon, Don DeLillo and Richard Powers with a focus on the depiction of science and technology in fiction. In 2024, he published a book of short stories, Invisible Bridges. He holds both a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center and an MFA in Fiction from The School of the Arts at Columbia University.
