Smart Talk: Interview with Andy Stern, former President of the SEIU.

Andy Stern, the former head of the Service Employees International Union (“SEIU”) talks about building his over 1.9-million-member union. Stern, the author of “A Country that Works,” tells the Henry George School’s Andrew Mazzone that the secret to labor success in today’s workplace is no secret at all: Unions must organize industries, not just individual companies. Otherwise, says Stern, employers can find ways to collude and undercut wages. “Union wages bring everyone up,” Stern tells Smart Talk, “or non-union wages bring everyone down.”
